OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

Please help me simplify the following.

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

\[(a ^{n-4}b ^{4})(ab ^{n-1})^{4}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember that you are trying to combine like terms. Distribute the farthest right exponent of 4 into \[ab ^{n-1}\], so that you have, in total, \[a ^{n-4} b ^{4} a ^{4} b ^{4n-4}\]. Add exponents of like variables to get \[a ^{n}b ^{4n}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer is a^n*b^4n

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

ahh i see..i got tripped up with the parentheses. i did not know they could be removed
