Solve this!:

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

\[y - (-5.5) < -25\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-(-5.5) becomes 5.5 so y + 5.5 < -25 add -5.5 to both sides of the inequality what do you get ?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Um...I add 5.5 to -25, right? ...and the other side, too.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

-19.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no .. you have to add -5.5 to both sides .. not 5.5 cause you want to isolate y

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay, so -19.5 is not the answer?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

\[y + 5.5 + 5.5 + 5.5 < -25\] That is what I did.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok we have : y + 5.5 < -25 if we add -5.5 to both sides we get : y + 5.5 - 5.5 < -25 -5.5 y < -30.5

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oh! Now I know where I got wrong! kk thnx.
