EXPLAIN WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS WHEN SAYING "THE SQUARE ROOT OF 25"AND SAYING "A SQUARE ROOT OF 25"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two real roots there. The positive and negative roots. So you can say -5 * -5 = 25 and 5 * 5 = 25 So the square root of 25 has two real roots. *A* root of 25 is -5, the OTHER root is 5.

THANKS YOU MEAN A SQ ROOT OF 25 IS 5, BUT THE SQUARE OF 25 CAN HAVE TWO OUTCOMES 5, AND -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"The square root" is an expression. It's an idea. "A root" would be the evaluation of said square root, since there are two of them, there are two roots.
