If the lengths of two sides of a triangle are 5 & 11, what is the range of possible lengths for the third side? a. 5 < x < 11 b. 6 < x < 16 c. x<5 or x>11 d. 6 < x < 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a rule that states that the length of one side of a triangle cannot be more than the sum of the other two lengths. does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummm...alittle but really these questions aren't for me..i'm checking my friends homework by using this becuase it's a more advanced math than i have

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all you have to do is add and subtract :) your missing side is going to be smaller than the sum of the other two sides but greater than their difference (their positive difference)

i don't think it is c or d am i correct so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. do you know the pythagorean theorem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alittle....i think it's b
