who are the commandants of the nazi concentration camps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only ones I know of are Rudolf Höss, Adolf Eichmann, Herbert Kappler and Joachim Peiper. I'm sure there were more but those are the only ones I know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats more than what I know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In general, the SS was charged with the administration and control of the concentration camp system. Of the names listed above, only Rudolf Hoss was a camp commandant (Auschwitz). The others weren't. Eichmann was a lieutenant colonel in the SS in charge of the logistics behind the concentration camp system. Kappler was a member of the SS but worked in a policeman's role in Italy. Joachim Peiper was also in the SS, but he was a soldier who fought in the war. He wasn't a commandant of any of the camps.

oh my gosh. thankyou so much! Do you think you could help me with another question concerning the holocaust?

A major reason for the failure of the democratic government in Germany after WW1 was the inability of the weimar republic to deal with...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's a lot of reasons for why the Weimar Republic failed. I guess I could say that their inability to deal with rampant unemployment and a weakened economy spurred the kind of extremism that allowed the Nazis to take power. They were seen as having no solutions to any of the problems afflicting Germany in the years after WW1, and the Great Depression in 1929 only made things much worse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that makes sense! I remember something about the weak economy I just can't find any of that in my notes! Thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hitler and the Nazis promised to fix all of the problems in Germany by putting everyone to work and making the country strong again. And to many Germans, that made an appealing argument to vote them into power.
