Choose the sentence that has an adjective phrase. A. Put the umbrellas by the door. B. By the door was a large umbrella. C. The umbrella by the door is not mine. D. I found the umbrella by the door. ***My answer: B. by the door was a large umbrella.
am i right?? is B the answer??
C. The umbrella by the door is not mine.
why is that the answer??? i thought adjective phrases describe??? so large umbrella describes umbrella by calling it large?
that is a predicate adjective
what do you mean?
why is the answer C??? and what do you mean by predicate adjective??
predicate adjective follows a linking verb as well as predicate nomatives. this is a PA She was pretty. That car was fast. these are PN She is a girl. He is my teacher.
so the answer to this is C, because of the predicate adjective 'not mine' ??
still confused :(
now in my sentence The umbrella by the door is not mine. the phrase "by the door" is an adjective phrase describing umbrella. Remember an Adjective or Adjective Phrase answers the questions: Which one What kind How much Whose In my sentence it answers... Which one Which one? The one "by the door" Do you understand?
so was i right?? was it B?? cuz large describes umbrella?? or was @countonme123 right?? cuz of the predicate adjective??? and is the predate adjective 'not mine'??im a bit lost :(
in my sentence there is also a predicate nomative which is the word "mine " but the question asks which sentence has an adjective phrase. In your sentence it only has an adjective... which is "large" and it is describing "umbrella"
okay thanks :)
I hope you understand. This is important.
