OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

Use the distributive property to simplify the expression below: The quantity of negative 2 times x minus 12 all divided by negative 2 x - 12 x + 6 -2x + 6 x - 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-2 x -12) / 2 right?

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

lets see what the other guy says

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2(x-12)/2 = Distribue the top first (-2*x) + (-2*-12)/2 (-2x + 24)/2 Now it depends if they want you to solve

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

no they dont want u to solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe you can simplify it further by dividing the 2 in -2 and the 24 by 2 as well so you get -x+12

OpenStudy (dmezzullo):

so whats the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DM is it -2*x-12 or is it -2(x-12) ? Makes a big difference in the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have to distribut -2(x-12) that would be -2x+24 because the negative times a negative equals a positive. So the answer ends up being -x+12
