What is the midpoint of (3, 4) and (–1, –2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can find the midpoint by finding the middle of the two x-coordinates first, then the middle of the two y coordinates. The middle x between x = 3 and x = -1 is x = 1. You can just "think about it", or sketch it, or realize that the 3+(-1) = 4, and the midpoint of a distance of 4 is 2 units, so it would be 2 units less than x = 3 and 2 units more than x = -1... that spot is x = 1. Then repeat for the y coordinate.

Ahh that confused me.

hartnn (hartnn):

just take the average of co-ordinates.... add them and divide it by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, (1,1).

hartnn (hartnn):

yes
