What tools do people use to write mathematical and chemical expressions prettily? Microsoft Word does it, but it's very cumbersome and it italicizes words. What tools can I use to show my equations nicely in a lab report?

For printing? TeX works, but takes a bit to learn. There may be some WYSIWYG editors out there. For viewing electronically, MathML is an option, and there are equation editors that might help.

Have you tried using the chemistry plugin/tool for Microsoft Word?

No, does it exist for Word 2013? I need something I can use that's quick and easy. TeX/LaTeX would be great if you could direct me to a good, simple WYSIWYG editor

If you're in a hurry, and just need a fe, and you're willing to fiddle a bit then cut and paste images, you can use an online editor: http://sites.hamline.edu/~arundquist/equationeditor/ If you want you're own, you can google "TeX equation editor" and away you go. But you'll need to install TeX itself first, which can be an ordeal, depending on your system.
