Solve |(x-1)/(x+1)|<1

OpenStudy (calculusfunctions):

If \[\left| x \right|<a\]where a is a positive number, then\[-a <x <a\] Start there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-1<\frac{x-1}{x+1}<1\] I am stuck here. Next step is supposed to multiply -1 and 1 with the denominator but if \(x+1<0\) the "<" sign would be ">" but how do I know whether \(x+1<0\) or \(x+1>0?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you have to solve separately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know about wavy curves.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@subham.bagrecha what about the sign? @satellite73

OpenStudy (raden):

well, u have two problems... first, -1 < (x-1)/(x+1) and (x-1)/(x+1) < 1 just to find solution of both!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For first part: -x-1< x-1 2x>0 -> x>0 For second part x-1< x+1 0 < 2 -> useless. So x>0

OpenStudy (raden):

in inequality dont use cross product !!

OpenStudy (raden):

should be like this |dw:1349792889772:dw|
