3/4 + 5/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To add fractions, you need a common denominator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need a common denominator first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then after that everything will just be adding.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

create a common denominator, then add together look for a number that both 4 and 6 divide into protip: multiply 4 and 6 together, and start there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not getting the correct answer??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find The LCD (Least Common Denominator) Example: 4, 8, (12), 16 6, (12), 18 In This Case The LCD Is 12. Then, Since 4 Is Multiplied By 3, You Will Multiply 3 x 3 And Since 6 Is Multiplied By 2 It Will Be 5 x 2 To Get The Numerator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope stilll not getting the answer bye doing that??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you write out your new equation with a common denominator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for instance, 3/4 = 9/12, right? multiply 3 and 4 by 3. 3*3 = 9 4*3 = 12 therefore, 9/12 5/6, to make this over 12 you have to multiply by 2 10/12 so you now have 9/12 + 10/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/4 + 5/6 6*4 = 24 (new denominator) 3 * 6 = 18 5*4 = 20 18/24 + 20/24 = 38/24 = 19/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not an answer choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 19/12 though, unless we are misinterpreting the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about 1 7/12? Is that an option?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are your choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.583^_

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/10, 1 5/9 , 1 7/12 , 8/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 7/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 and 7/12 then reason being, if you have 19/12 that is 12/12 + 7/12, or 1 + 7/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 7/12 = 19/12 Subject 12 from 19 to take 1 out, which leaves 7/12ths
