can someone help me i dont understand the roster form?? thank you
roster form is listing the elements of a set inside of brackets. the set of evens less than 10 is {2, 4, 6, 8}
Here's another explanation I found: Roster form is a listing(like a roster) of the numbers... within set notation. Example: Set M is the set of 'natural numbers' between ten and fifteen in roster form M = {11,12,13,14}
thank you so if i have N is the set of real numbers that are cactors of 12... it will be 2 4 6 8 10 ???
factors of 12?
I didn't quite understand your question... factors of 12 doesn't include 8 or 10, but you wrote "cactors" :)
sorry it was factors :P
sorry, no 5 !!! OOOOOPS!
the factors of 12 include: 2, 3, 4, 6 also, 1 and 12 :) Forgot these before :) in roster form, N = {1,2, 3, 4, 6, 12} Does that seem right?
yes i guess i dont really understande this :( but i really thank you for helping me
undestand *
which part are you confused on?
do you have an actual math question, or is it just the idea of "roster form"?
in the part where we have to put the numbers how do in know ?
N is the set of real numbers that are factors of 12?
the numbers you put are any numbers that meet the situation described in the problem. So the factors of 12 are... 12 x 1 = 12 6 x 2 = 12 3 x 4 = 12 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 are factors... N = {1,2,3,4,6,12}
5 is a real number, but it is not a factor of 12, so 5 doesn't get to belong to the "club" (we call it a "set") N... N only includes {1,2,3,4,6,12}
For a different rule, like "G is the set of odd numbers bigger than 10 and smaller than 20" G = {11,13,15,17, 19} 21 is odd... so is 3, but they don't meet the rule that says they also have to be between 10 and 20... so they are not members of the set G
ahh i understand so if i have the factor of 8 8X1=8 4X2=8 1,2,4,AND 8 RIGHT ?
can it be like that ?
yes, that's perfect :)
in roster form, then you would say it's {1,2,4,8}
Is it starting to make sense? They call it "roster form" because it's a list... The "roster" of students in the class only includes the students assigned to that class... so students who belong to the school but NOT to the class are NOT on the class roster. However, a different rule that is "belongs to the school" could have a roster of ALL students... meaning it would include all the students in all the classes.
yes omg!! thank you very much
ok know in the roster of 12 i have to find the set-bilder notation i dont know how to do that c you help me ?
Yes, so "roster form" is one way to describe numbers that follow a rule. I think you have that now... Set builder is another way to do the same thing.
do you have to do the same example? Real numbers that are factors of 12?
yes :D
I don't know how to write this correctly in the website equation tool, but it's something like: \[{ x \in \mathbb{R} : factors of 12 }\]
