how do I factor 0.4m^2 + 0.6m - 1.8? I know the answer is 0.2(2m - 3)(m + 3) but I have no idea how to get it. help please?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

multiply all the decimals by 10 first

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

it should become 4m^2+6m - 18 which will make it easier to factor

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

now factor out the 2 and it will become 2(2m^2+3m-9)

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

now factor (2m^2+3m-9). What two numbers add to 3 and what two numbers multiply to 9? 3 X 3. Now the signs...mmm trial and error because plus sides on both (2m+3)(m+3) will not make it match to (2m^2+3m-9). minus won't work. Therefore it's one minus and one plus (2m-3)(m+3) (2m-3)(m+3)

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

add the 2 and it will be 2(2m-3)(m+3) divide the first two by 10 to get 0.2 so it will be 0.2(2m-3)(m+3)
