What does the term "primitives" refer to exactly? I'm sure it was covered in the first two lectures but I can't remember exactly what it refers to.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It refers to the basic or built-in data types of a programming language. e.g. integers, floats, booleans and characters!

Excellent. Thank you!

Any time! Glad to be of help!

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Depends on the langauge there are basic primitives int, double, float, single, long, etc; however in Java for Instance there are also classes Integrer, Double, FLoat, Single, Long, etc. The caps make a different and you would have to make a new object for instance Integer i = new Integer() if needed. Most likely you will use int.
