Malcolm X provided a new voice for African Americans that stood in contrast to Martin Luther King's _____ message. A. Extremist B. Nonviolent C. Black Nationalist D. Black Power

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say "d" because Malcolm X and martin Luther king did the same thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jr-pop16 that is opposite of what really happened.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So which one would it be then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a sense of what Malcolm X and ML King were like? What they talked about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know a little about ML King but not much about Malcolm x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the question is asking about what Dr. King was like. What was his message?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd say D? Would that be right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so. He had a more important message and characteristic. Malcolm X was more extreme and wasn't necessarily against fighting. ML King was sort of the opposite of that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sry i got him and some one els mixed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In that case, it'd be B, am i right?

I found this information useful (: The early backgrounds of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were largely responsible for the distinct different responses to American racism. Both men ultimately became towering icons of contemporary African-American culture and had a great influence on black Americans. However, King had a more positive attitude than Malcolm X, believing that through peaceful demonstrations and arguments, blacks will be able to someday achieve full equality with whites. Malcolm X's despair about life was reflected in his angry, pessimistic belief that equality is impossible because whites have no moral conscience. King basically adopted on an integrationalist philosophy, whereby he felt that blacks and whites should be united and live together in peace. Malcolm X, however, promoted nationalist and separatist doctrines. For most of his life, he believed that only through revolution and force could blacks attain their rightful place in society. http://www.studyworld.com/newsite/reportessay/Biography/HistoricalFigures%5CMartin_Luther_King_Jr__and_Malcolm_X-9233129.htm So I'd go with B) nonviolent.
