In reference to current, can someone please help me understand this: Positive charge flowing in one direction is equivalent to negative charge flowing in the opposite direction? I have a problem in which x amount of negative ions arrive to the positive electrode and y amount of positive ions arrive to the negative electrode. I thought that I would get the total amount of charge carrier by subtracting x and y but I am supposed to add them because of the given statement.

Electrode of what? a capacitor or battery? remember that any charge that shows up on one electrode must have left the other (you're just separating them) so it should be 2x the amount on one electrode

it is a solution, they are just electrodes, they don't specify if a battery or capacitor.
