Write a function rule for this table....

I suppose it is not obvious, but these points lie on a line. y changes down 1 and x changes up 1. If you take two of the pair, e.g. (-1,3) and (0,2), and find the equation of the line through these 2 points, that would be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u find the equation of the line?

OpenStudy (phi):

the easiest way is to first find the slope: change in y divided by change in x that means take the 2nd number from the pair (-1,3) and subtract the 2nd number in (0,2): 3-2= 1 is the change in y now change in x: -1 -0= -1 divide change in y by change in x: 1/-1= -1 that is the slope: m=-1 now solve y= -x+b for b. Use (0,2) for (x,y) to find b 2= -1*0+b b=2 y= -x+2

Omg, i see now. So then if it was in function form,as my teacher calls it,then it would be written as f(x)=-x+2. I get it now! Thanks again!
