graph linear inequality y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First graph the line y = x + 1 Now, since we need y < x + 1 think of it this way, which side of the line is technically "lesser" than the other? So, since heading towards negative infinity is technically "lesser" than heading towards "positive" infinity, you would shade in everything to the left of the line y = x + 1 However, since the sign is y < not y <=; the line must be dotted... I hope this was clear?

Don't forget to dot the line. Because y <x + 1 since it is "<" not "<=" it cannot equal the line so it must be dotted to imply the line isn' t included.
