Using synthetic division, what is the quotient: (2x3 – 2x – 12) ÷ (x – 2) ? 2x2 + 4x + 6 2x2 – 4x + 6 2x2 + 4x – 6 2x2 + 4x – 6 + 1/(x-2)

The remainder theorem states that you can plug in 2 for x and get the remainder. BTw is that 2x^2

or 2x^3?

We need to account for all the x-variables. In this case, we are missing the x^2 term. Rewriting the problem, we have... (2x^3+0x^2-2x-12)/(x-2). I inserted a placeholder of zero as coefficient of the squared term.
