true enough. it was easy to organize "all" the elements into groups of threes when they only knew about 15-20 elements total.  HE was on the right track using properties to group elements, but got off-track by mandating that there had to be groups of 3, instead of allowing the pattern to expand the groups (like we've since found that it does)
