derivative of sin(cos x)

hartnn (hartnn):

@edelgado36 Hi, \(\huge \color{red}{\text{Welcome to Open Study}}\ddot\smile\) are you aware of the chain rule ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i am, how would you do it in this equation? i also used the product rule and ended up getting -sin^2x.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Woops! we don't want to use the product rule on this one. We have a function WITHIN a function, not a function TIMES a function. See how the cosine is INSIDE the sine? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, yes. Then how would you do the chain rule on it? Wouldnt it then be sin(cos x) times -sinx?
