Imagine that you are an exchange student calling home to tell your parents about your experience so far in a new country. In 8 complete Spanish sentences write about two or three of the following points. - what you typically do every day - something interesting you did last week - where you are right now and what you are doing - your feelings about being in a new country ***IN spanish 2... just simple sentences please!! :) i just don't really know how to translate stuff and yeah :( i need help!! thank youu!! :D

OpenStudy (turingtest):

pick something you want to say and I will help you translate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wanna write this: 1) I eat different kinds of food and see new places. 2) I have many new friends now. 3) On Friday, I saw the Statue of Liberty! 4) Right now, I am walking through the crowded streets and there are so many cars and people! 5) I am going to a store to buy a camera so I can take pictures. 6) I am very excited but nervous too. 7) I cannot wait to tell you all about it! 8) I have to go have more fun now! ***And i want to start with hola madre y padre! is that a good start?? and idk how to translate those sentences into simple spanish 2 sentences... help please?? nothing too complex?? :)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I eat = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yo como ??

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yes "different kinds of food" if I tell you that "kinds of" is "typos de" can you translate it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to translate the rest though.. :( please help?? :D

OpenStudy (turingtest):

you can't translate the word "different"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

differente?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yes, but here it is plural, so "differentes" I assume you know the word for "food" so you should now be able to translate " I eat different kinds of food"

OpenStudy (turingtest):

diferentes* no double f :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to translate the rest cuz i gotta go soon :( please help??? :D

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I am helping, and when you return I will help you more, but I won't translate it for you. That would not help you learn the material.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm lol false alarm! haha okay continue?? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

change in plans so yeah I'm back for awhile :)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

so what have you got for " I eat different kinds of food" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yo como diferentes la comida. ???

OpenStudy (turingtest):

what happened to "kinds of" ? I told you how to tranlate that also you don't need "la" because it is not singular maybe it is easier to translate "I eat different foods"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so is it this? yo como diferentes clases de comida. ???

OpenStudy (turingtest):

that is tolerable, I think yo como clases/tipos de comidas diferentes (remember diferentes is an adjective, which usually goes after the noun in spanish)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i write sentence 1 like this? Yo como clases de comidas diferentes. ???

OpenStudy (turingtest):

yeah that's okay yours is not technically wrong though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, which is better though, the first one i wrote or the one i just wrote??

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Well this is where it is hard for me to say, because I live in Mexico so I use their form of speech, but in class they probably want a more international version. I think both are equally acceptable, but I suppose that yo como diferentes clases de comida/alimentos. is safer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay aweosme!! what about sentence 2??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I have = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yo ?? idk off the top of my head :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yo = I, good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or is it yo tengo??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I have = yo tengo

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

many = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mucho?? or is it muchos??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's muchos because you're talking about a plural thing (friends and not friend)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

new friends = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, and nuevos amigos ???

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i think it would be amigos nuevos

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so put it all together, we get I have many new friends = Yo tengo muchos amigos nuevos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see. so sentence 2 is like this? 2) yo tengo muchos amigos nuevos. ??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, whata bout #3?? i know friday is viernes but idk the rest.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I saw = yo veo ...I think

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh wait, that's I see...hmm

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I think it's I saw = Yo vi

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/ver#conjugation

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm using that site to help me translate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

according to that website I saw the Statue of Liberty = Vi la estatua de la libertad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i can just say statue of liberty tho :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

true, it's like a name

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah so how do i write #3??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

again using the website, I get El viernes, vi la estatua de la libertad

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or you can say El viernes, vi la Statue of Liberty I think

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or maybe it's El viernes, vi el Statue of Liberty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

el or la?? idk

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sry computer crashed on me

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay :) so which one is it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awww :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's a name, but the name doesn't have any gender (that I know of?)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so why not go with el

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I think if no gender is known, it's automatically masculine...I think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i'll just go with el :) so i have this for #3?? 3) El viernes, vi el Statue of Liberty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sounds good to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aweosme!! what about #4 now??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I am walking = Estoy caminando

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and then what? :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

through the streets = por las calles through the crowded streets = por las calles atestadas

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and there are so many cars and people = y hay muchos carros y gente I think that's how you would say that piece

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i will just say through the streets

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so #4 is like this? 4) Estoy caminando por las calles y hay muchos carros y gente. ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 4) Estoy caminando por las calles y hay muchos carros y personas.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm i think gente is plural of person (so gente = people) but... you can say personas as like they're a collection of persons So I think either one would work

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh you forgot atestadas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so how should i write out #4 then??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

just add atestadas after calles

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so one way to write it is Estoy caminando por las calles atestadas y hay muchos carros y personas.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, and what about #5??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I am going to a store to buy a camera so I can take pictures Yo voy a la tienda a comprar una cámara para tomar fotos hmm not 100% sure on that though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awwww :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i just write it like what you wrote?like this?? Yo voy a la tienda a comprar una cámara para tomar fotos.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah i think it's right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay what about #6??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 ??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/excited http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/nervous I am very excited but nervous too. Estoy muy emocionado pero nervioso tambien

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for #5 i write that?? 5) Estoy muy emocionado pero nervioso también. ???

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah that's what I would write

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, & #7???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^^^7) Estoy muy emocionado pero nervioso tambien

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

wasn't that #6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that was 6 my bad ^^6) lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's number 7 then?? 7) I cannot wait to tell you all about it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 ???

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm wait is esperar

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so I cannot wait is Yo no puedo esperar
