Solve: 2m + 1< 5 or 2m – 1 > 5

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so where are you stuck there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk what to do

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

do you know how to solve 2m + 1 = 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seriously?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sbanuelos : in both cases, you need to isolate the term "m": 2m + 1< 5 or 2m – 1 > 5 so that's two cases... case 1: 2m + 1< 5 --or-- case 2: 2m – 1 > 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

case 1: 2m + 1< 5 First, subtract 1 from both sides of the inequality... 2m + 1< 5 2m + 1 - 1 < 5 - 1 2m < 4 Then divide both sides by 2: 2m/2 < 4/2 m < 2 <<<<--------- So, that's case # 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For case # 2: 2m – 1 > 5 it's the same idea... isolate "m": 2m – 1 > 5 So, add 1 to both sides: 2m – 1 + 1 > 5 + 1 2m > 6 Then divide both sides by 2: 2m/2 > 6/2 m > 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m < 5 or m > -5 m > -3 or m < 5 m < -3 or m > 5 those r my answer choices
