Binding Energy Help In Chemistry !! Ok, My teacher gave us a binding energy problem,, where you get the mass defect and stuff. Well She gave me Nitrogen 14 and 7. Which is what she said, but she didnt give me the actual mass, she instead said to look in the periodic table of elements,, but i dont get how, the element im given is probly an isotope. Please Help..!!
http://webelements.com/ Click on the element, then scroll down and look on the left for "Nuclear properties" and click on "Isotopes". You'll find the mass of all the isotopes you like. For example, the mass of N-14 is 14.0030740053 amu. Wikipedia can give you the mass of the bare proton and neutron.
The name of an isotope includes the mass number , so nitrogen 14 would have a mass number of 14 .
