equations ,solve for x using a smart technique

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you want though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good advice. I'll do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i lost connection 4 some tym sorry \[(x-2)(x+1)(x+4)(x+7)=19\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In that case, I guess I'd simplify it and start with rational root theorem. (Or just use my graphing calculator to be really smart)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they dont allow calc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x^2+5x-14)(x^2+5x+4)=19\] let\[x^2+5x+4=a\]\[a(a-18)=19\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[a^2-18a-19=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(a-19)(a+1)\] a=19 and a=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then do two separate quadratics . . . I suppose that will work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so\[x^2+5x+4=19,x^2+5x+4=-1\] my answers are flying away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^2+5x-15=0,x^2+x+5=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=error HEEEEEELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

last equation error\[x^2+5x+4=-1\] \[x^2+5x+5\] \[x=\frac{ -5\pm \sqrt{8} }{ 2 }\]
