I just started going over this course on MIT OCW which I didn't even know existed until a bit ago. But now I hear about edX and I am even more amazed. So my question is am I better off using edX? Instead of just the OCW? And if I should use edX is it possible to play catchup? or did I have to start back in sept.?
I'm also interested. Just checking out edX now, looks amazing! Thanks for the heads up dbro
I think edX is better, because I think OCW is just material, and edX you have the problem sets, and also if you pass you'll earn a certificate for 6.00x
Ok, I will try to catch up on edX but the OCW SC version of this course does have problem sets and solutions to them, and quizes and all, but its only for this and like one other CS course, the rest i think are just materials. But, do you know if it will count if I didn't register for the course on edX back in Sept.? I can view everything up till week 5 I think but idk if it will count for the certificate if I just jump in and do it... Kinda new to all this so I don't know how it works.
on edX you can review the syllabus to know the due dates and points for exercises and problem sets. Certificates are for students who earn a passing grade. If you can complete enough problem sets, exercises and the exams on time, you could earn a certificate.
ok so since I just started doing it, the due dates for the first few problem sets are already past due so I cannot get a certificate, correct? Oh, well it is at least a source of more info. I kinda like the format of the OCW version anyway, I can do it in my own time and grade myself with the solutions, but edX will help keep me honest if i do those questions too. I already have 3 years of a BA in CS but had to drop out, so I am just doing this to refresh myself and learn python along the way since where I went we were taught Java
If you already know how to program it'll be easy for you to advance quickly and level off. REVIEW THE SYLLABUS. You still be on time to earn a certificate, the most of the grades are for the exams. ok I'll do that, thank you, I just assumed if you missed one problem set that you couldn't get it. Thanks for the info, I suppose I should close the question now lol. Thanks again
You're welcome. Good luck!
