I am working on a project and am required to use MLA style. I need clarification on where to insert a period after a quotation on an assignment. For example, the directions are: Move your cursor to the sentence that reads: "We are open." Does the period go after or after the quotation? It is not a true citation. It's part of the direction. Thanks so much. Lisa
I believe the standard is to have the period go inside the quotation marks, as in your example - unless it's a citation I don't think it really has anything to do with MLA style. There are also some variations depending on whether you're using "American English" or "British English" - these websites may help: https://www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/jho/quotation_marks_MLA.html http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/quotation-marks-with-periods-and-commas.aspx
