Add the whole numbers... 12 + 10 = 22. Now set aside the whole numbers. Find the LCD(Least Common Denominator) of both fractions. Both 3 and 9 go into 9, so: 9 times 1 = 9 so multiply 1 times 1:\[\frac{ 1 }{ 9 } \to \frac{1}{9}\]To get from 3 to 9 you multiply by 3, so multiply the numerator(2) by 3 as well:\[\frac{ 2 }{ 3 } \to \frac{ 3 }{ 9 }\] Now add the fractions: \[\frac{ 1 }{ 9 } + \frac{ 3 }{ 9 } = \frac{ 4 }{ 9 }\] So you have \[22 \frac{ 4 }{ 9 }\]
