What happens to the carbon atom during cellular respiration or fermentation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Well, if you're talking about carbon dioxide, that I know the answer to. Cellular Respiration is the process in which cells create and release energy, allowing us to do the things we do. Cells take in oxygen and glucose (sugar) to use them to create energy. 3 things are made: ATP (the energy packed molecule), water, and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is expelled into your bloodstream, which in turn transports the carbon dioxide to the lungs, where it is breathed out when we exhale. Answer: Carbon Dioxide is a product made by cells during cellular respiration and is released from our body when we exhale. Hope this helps!"
