An empty flash has a mass of 123.4g. When the flask is filled with water, the mass is 211.6g. If 10.0g of zinc (d=7.14g/cm^3) is added to the flask filled with water (and the sides of the flask are dried from the displaced water), what is the new mass of the flask?

OpenStudy (preetha):

So here is a start. Calculate the mass of water. 211-123 = mass of water. Use density to convert this mass to volume. => ml of flask Now you have the volume of the flask. Now you add 10 g of Zn. Calculate the volume of that zinc, from density of Zn. Water overflows. Amount of water displaced = volume of zinc. COnvert that to g and you will get the mass of water displaced. Subtract this mass from the total mass before addition of Zinc (211)+10- mass of displaced water.
