in the paper chromotragraphy lab, i used a spinach.... it states that chlorophyll b is in the bottom, followed by chlorophyll a, xanthophyll, and carotene pigment is the farthest. what is the capillary action and the rf.... more importantly what and how does these pigments seperate???? please help.. thx

They all should have a certain Rf point, even if you do the experiment again, because it measures how far they have travelled. The reason they move in different distance is due to capillary action

this you should ask google! not a hard concept to understand. It talks about the movement due to surface tension, but u will get more detailed info if u google it

got you :) but do you know what the absorption spectrum does, and what happens in this process??

absorb whatever the wavelength that the solution gives off. I dont remember exactly what it does in this lab as the one i did a month didnt involve the use of spectrometer.
