before u can graph this equation get the equation in standard form: y=mx+b
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
first solve this equation
y-3=2(x-4)
y-3=2x-8
y=2x-5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I got 2x-5, I'm having trouble graphing...
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
@SephI now solve it

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
put the value of x=0
y=0-5=-5
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
1solution=(0,-5)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
b is the y intercept
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
put the value of x=1
y=2-5
y=-3
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
2 solution=(1,-3)

@SephI there are may solutions
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
got it @SephI
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so -5 is the y value when x is 0
then the slope is m which is 2
so go up 2 points from -5 go left 1 because your slope is really 2/1
that's you next point then draw a line through both points
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No, no I don't. Putting different numbers in will give me different answers?
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
then you will get a straight line

am i wrong?
@Bhagyashree
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Okay, walk through step-by-step
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
you don't understand
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you are not wrong @mayankdevnani it is just a different method
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
oh!! but it is right @SephI

wait let me explain in a different way
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
uw you can
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
there are infinitely solutions @SephI
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@mayankdevnani , go on...

OpenStudy (anonymous):
as what @mayankdevnani just said is right
if u plug a value of x in an equation u get a value of y for that x value
if u get 2 of those points they both belong to one equation that u want to graph
so its not wrong
u can also look at previous answer which is a different method of graphing
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
now put the value of x=5
y=10-5=5
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
2solution=(5,5)
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
now you understand @SephI
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
take the value of x=4
y=8-5=3

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
3solution=(4,3)
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
also (4,3) is in the graph as line pass through it
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
ok @SephI
OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):
@hartnn am i right?
hartnn (hartnn):
about what ?
u have to graph the line, right ?
find x and y intercepts, plot them, and just daw a staright line passing through them.
To get x-intercept put y=0 in the equation
to get y-intercept put x=0 in the equation
i am too lazy to go through all the comments....
