I want to teach myself all of calculus in 3 weeks to a month. What is the best way to go about learning it via the internet?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

lol XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please give me some serious advice

zepdrix (zepdrix):

The best way would probably be to go through a structured course that doesn't cost you anything. Like MIT OpenCourseWare maybe. They have tests, sample tests, solutions, assignments. All kinds of stuff. And all of the lectures are on YouTube. That's one idea at least. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you think i can do it in 3 weeks?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

mmm maybe.. :( if you focus really really hard maybe. why do you need to learn the subject that fast?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i want to stay in an astronomy major I have to... i need to be prepared for next spring when i take it

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Unless you are some kind of whiz kid I don't think you'll get a very good handle on it from just a month, but good luck powering though this: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcIII/CalcIII.aspx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What level of calculus? single variable is possible, but beyond that I think it would be hard to understand it well, you could understand the theory, but would probably not be able to apply it well.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

sure you can... Look up series and sequences on khanacadamey, then find a litst on how to test for convergence. you should be good if you understand all that.

OpenStudy (immings):

Enroll in ILC.org Ministry of Education approved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it even possible though? its calc 1 that i need to learn

OpenStudy (immings):

I should have been more specific ilc is for Canadians. If you are Canadian, then you can enroll in MCV4U Grade 12 University Calculus

OpenStudy (turingtest):

oh, you said "all of calculus"... http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcI/CalcI.aspx I think these notes are all quite good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calc 1 is perfectly possible, you just need to study seriously, with objectives for each day and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I like MIT couse online too.

OpenStudy (immings):

Just having university notes isn't going to help him, he needs to build a foundation from Calculus and Vectors, or To take a 900 course (basically Calculus and Vectors)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

calc3 where I am has nothing to do with vectors, its about sequences and series...

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I agree, I was just trying to provide something you can tear through. Lectures would probably take longer than is being requested, but spending time is the only way to get a deep understanding, which is critical to calc.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

and if you know the shortcut rules for derivatives then you can learn most of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So whats the best method to learn it then?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I think the MIT OCW course is the most thorough and easily accessed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about khan academy? Going through all of his lectures

OpenStudy (immings):

What is your background in Math?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have taken up to precalc

OpenStudy (immings):

Not familiar with US courses, is that Grade 11 or 12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in college

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, don't you have calculus in college??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes but I wanna know it all before taking it so that I do well in it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oooh, ok. Then I think you have more thatn a month, you can study the more advanced subjects while the professor is teaching the basics
