OpenStudy (rainbow_dash):

A jar contains 3 chocolate cookies, 5 peanut butter cookies, and 6 coconut cookies. If 3 cookies are selected in succession, what is the probability of selecting chocolate, then peanut butter, and then coconut cookies, if replacement occurs each time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Total number of cookies = 3+5+6 = 14 The probability of the first cookie being a chocolate is the total number of chocolate cookies divided by all of the cookies: 3/14 Because you then replace the cookie each time, the total stays at 14. Peanut Butter: 5/14 Coconut: 6/14 If the cookie didn't go back in then the number of total would decrease each time resulting in PB: 3/13 and Coconut: 6/12 or 1/2
