Help for developing an English analysis paper thesis statement? I need to write either a contextual or comparative analysis essay on two texts, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to develop an arguement. Whenever I feel like I've got something that focuses on the texts, I feel like it's too observational or obvious, which is really bad, but when I think I've got an arguement, it seems to be less on the texts and more on society today or something.

What do you have so far? Maybe if I see your bad examples, I can help you come up with a good one.

Listen, obvious is good. Relatively few people can state the obvious with simple clarity, humility, and a bit of good humor. Everyone instead tries to be deep, and ends up sounding pompous and long-winded, if not insufferable and boring. By all means, restrict yourself to the obvious, and see if you can just say it quite clearly, logically, and if at all possible with a bit of wit or humor. Do that, and you will be miles ahead of your contemporaries, and give your teacher something much more enjoyable to read.
