Keep this in mind: the little (negative) for exponents is telling you I DON'T BELONG HERE. If it is in the numerator, send it to the denominator without the negative. And vice versa. SEND IT TO IT'S HOME :) Then think of it like this: ccccccccc dddddddddd -------------------- cccccccccccccc ddddddd Cancel what you can, and what you are left with is...................

Rules for exponents are a great convenience. But my rule of thumb for exponents IS WHEN IT DOUBT, WRITE IT OUT :)
