Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between each pair of points. A(0,0), B(-3,4) How do you solve this and what is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know why you would use pythagorean theorem to find the distance between 2 points, try using the distance formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah but in my book the next on chapter 1-3 is says to use the distance formula and the other says to use the Pythagorean theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm... do u know how to use the distance formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok solve it first doing that while i figure out how to use pythagorean and i can compare answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I will

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i think i know how to do it but i need you to graph it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to plot the point first and then connect the point and create a ninety degree angle like a triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then find the distance of the points to the vertex of the triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i found a site to help you visualize, let me know if that helps. http://gamedev.michaeljameswilliams.com/2009/05/08/pythagorean-distance-between-two-points/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It helped thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem if you have any other question just let me know, but most often you should just use the distance formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok
