Linear Algebra break down..... I need some major help: Im pretty sure im doing its all right, but the answer kept denying it's right.. First lets start with this: A=2 k -8 7 find K where eigenvalues is multiplicity of 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A-lamda(T)= (9+-Sqr(81-(4(17+8k)))/2 <-- this should equal 1/2 right?

OpenStudy (phi):

I think you want the discriminant (stuff inside the sqrt) to be 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh... wat does multiplicity of 2 mean than?

OpenStudy (phi):

multiplicity of two means you get the same lambda value twice. Generally speaking, not a good thing, because it makes it hard to find the second eigenvector

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 13/32, and its still wrong t.t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

had wrong definition of multiplicity. now i got it: but ... still wrong?

OpenStudy (phi):

btw, how did you get 81-(4(17+8k)) I think that 17 should be a 14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ye....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 25/32--

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bingo. correct: ty on this problem

you want me to post here? or shall i create new post?
