4sqrt(x)+x=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi, do you need help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would start by subtracting the x from both sides, and then taking the square of both sides.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You may wish to do it directly: \[x + 4\sqrt{x} - 1 = 0\] Recognize the application of the Quadratic Formula: \[\sqrt{x} = \frac{-4 \pm\sqrt{4^{2}-4(1)(-1)}}{2*1}\] Since \[\sqrt{x} \ge 0\] we'll need to throw out the "-" part of that formula.
