Is my answer correct? :) Question: Solve -2x2 - 16x - 44 = 0 Answer: Below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-2x^2 - 16x - 44 = 0 \] close

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no 2 in front of the \(\sqrt{6}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me check :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure if you used the quadratic formula or completed the square but you are off by that two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this one is easiest to solve completing the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My answer:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you kind sir :) Do you mind checking my other one? I did the work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure go ahead and post

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve: 5x^2 = -30x -65 A.) x = -3+ 2i B.) x = -3 +4i C.) x = -6 +2i D.) x = -6+4i My answer is B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

especially if you call me "kind sir"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

again you are off by a 2, i sense a trend

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should be \[-3\pm2i\] i am wondering what computation you are doing to get the second part off by a factor of 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do I do that? ugh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me check once again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps it is in taking the square root are you using the quadratic formula? or completing the square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The former

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[5x^2 = -30x -65\] \[5x^2+30x=-65\] divide by 5\[x^2+6x=-13\] \[(x+3)^2=-13+9=-4\] \[x+3=\pm\sqrt{-4}=\pm2i\] \[x=-3\pm2i\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is making sense now, I was doing the steps wrong in the second half... i appreciate your efforts, love :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even if you are using the formula, make sure to divide out any common factor first you should start in that case with \[5x^2+30x+65=0\] then divide by 5 and get \[x^2+6x+13=0\] don''t keep the common factor, it is too much arithmetic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can see where I went off completely...it seems so obvious now!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOW :) thank YOU ;)
