Look at the discriminant of the quadratic equations to find the number and type of solutions. The discriminant is part of the quadratic formula underneath the square root sign: b^2 - 4ac. If it is positive, then there are two real solutions for that quadratic equation. If the discriminant is 0, then there is one real solution. If the discriminant is negative, then there are two imaginary solutions. (source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090103200725AAgK1xb) #5) 11x^2 +x +11=0 a=11, b=1, c=11 b^2-4ac 1^2-4(11)(11)=-483 Answer: no real solutions

#3) (x+3)^2=2 x+3 = (plus or minus) sqrt(2) x = -3 (plus or minus) sqrt(2)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sry i was away, did you see how to go from my last step to privetek's answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah after I looked at what you did I was pretty confident that was the answer but I just needed some reassurance
