HEYY! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THIS QUOTE MEANS?! "Here and there is born a Saint Theresa, foundress of nothing, whose loving heart-beats and sobs after an unattained goodness tremble off and are dispersed among hindrances, instead of centring in some long-recognizable deed."
Saint Theresa was the Little Flower, whose life to God was her "simple" way. She is a Doctor of the Church, but because she put all her trust in God, but did nothing out of the ordinary in the eyes of the world. That last part explains the reference to no long-recognizable deed. "Dispersed among hindrances" is a reference to her long-suffering, though she died at age 24. She suffered terribly from tuberculosis. Her heartbeats were her love God.
Her "simple way" was that she lived in relative obscurity as a cloistered nun and didn't rise to any prominent position in her Order, hence a foundress of nothing. She was a simple but extremely virtuous and holy nun. A saint.
I was reading this, and this is from Women's brains by Stephen Jay Gould. In this, it is talking about how women supposedly have smaller minds then men, and how people agree and disagree. Have you read it? Because I would be so thankful if you could explain it to me!
Women have anatomically smaller brain mass, but because they are the smaller gender, and that is no reflection of relative intelligence between the sexes. Men and women equally intelligent. I haven't read anything by Gould, so I can't comment on his work. However, the reference to Saint Theresa is one of an obscure person overlooked in the eyes of the world. She is a Doctor of the Church because of her simple, yet profound wisdom.
Do you think you could read it? It's really short, I promise!
I could send you a link
ok!
omg, thank you so much!
hold on!
Is that okay?
I got the link. I don't know how "short" that is! lol. This doesn't look like material one just skims over. Aer you sure you want to wait for me to read all that?
Im sorry in my text book it didn't seem that long! I just have to write a reader responses on it, and i am confused on which quote to pick and i don't really understand the material.
