Quadratics: For each of the following graphs, state the coordinates of the turning point and whether it is a maximum or minimum. a) y=(x+3)²-7 b) y=-(x-4)²+2

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Immediate visual inspection... a) (-3,7) b) (4,2) Can you see those?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup. Are you sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the co-ordinates of the turning point is -3,7 for a)?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Nope, it's (-3,-7). Typo on that one. That is a major purpose of putting these things in that form, so that vertex will be staring at you. Now, how about the min or max determiantion? Again, immediate visual inspection, because the FORM is designed to tell you: a) Min b) Max Do you see why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, but no.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It's the sign on the front. a) Positve opens up and the vertex is a minimum. b) Negative opens down and the vertex is a maximum. Cool, isn't it? It's just sitting there, waiting for you to grab it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh Thankyou so much
