simplify these expression. use the distributive property to combine like terms where appropriate. a. 6(x-2)+3x b.5(2x-3y)-(x+y) anyone?? i needd help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you need to type theese out or...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are there choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope thats the problems :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then, my thoughts on this are, (for a) 9x-12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if were trying to get one answer here, it would be either 3 or -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats for a??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep as for b, 9x-16y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i have to solve them??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they would normaly be open equations, but if its part of your test, then i can find answers...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok hmm how did u get 9x-12?? like what did you do to get them???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ 6(x-2)+3x\] \[6x-6\times 2+3x\] \[6x-12+3x\] \[6x+3x-12\] \[9x-12\] any question about any step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6(x-2) is the same as 6 times x and 6 times -2. After multiplying each, you get 6x and -12. Add the 3x to the 6x to get 9x - 12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one left o.o part B o.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(2x-3y) is the same as (5 times 2x) + (5 times -3y), which yields 10x - 15y. Looking at the -(x+y), you get 9x - 16y when you combine them.
