When do you use ya in a sentence? Can you give 1 or 2 examples?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know, in 6 years of Spanish, none of my teachers actually taught us the meaning of the word "ya." Can I give you an article that I just read? http://spanish.about.com/od/adverbs/a/ya.htm It seems that "ya" can be a bit complicated, when we try to translate it directly into English.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so it sounds like the most common way to use it is when you are talking about something that already happened.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i always though it was a slang for example "ya tengo dinero para el bus" or "ya compre lo que necistaba para la clase espanol"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The article tells us that it's used more informally, than formally. So yeah, slang it may be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never really used it in a spanish sentence, only when talking to my friends

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm only in Spanish 2, so I don't think I'm the most credible person to answer this, but could it be like saying," I have done this or that already"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in translation yes "ya yo lo hice" or "ya yo lo iba hace" again have to agree with it is informal than formal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep! I believe so. "Ya lo hice."

Thanks! That clears things up!
