What is the length of the part BC of the bridge? Can someone explain how to do this. I tried it and got it wrong on a review test. 1600 by cos 30 meters 1600 cos 30° meters 1600 sin 30° meters 1600 by sin 30 meters

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

BC is the adjacent side you're given the hypotenuse so you must use the cosine function

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

cos(angle) = adj/hyp cos(30) = x/1600 1600*cos(30) = x x = 1600*cos(30)

You just answered my other question too is my issue knowing which is adj?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah it seems it the adjacent side is the side where it touches the angle the opposite side is the side that doesn't touch the angle (and it's like it is the furthest it can be from the angle)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so here's a good way to think about it |dw:1353214175968:dw|

So the adj side changes between each triangle?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

say x is the given angle the leg adjacent to angle x is the side length C the leg opposite to angle x is the side length B

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes it does, but the same idea still applies

Okay thank you
