I believe the answer to the first problem is -3≤x<2
and the 2nd is x>2 or x<-6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@AriPotta help?!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok, i will try to help but write down the equation for me?

I attached them above @MikiaseKebede
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[\left| 2\chi+1\right|\le5\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i just want to get a clear shot at the problem

ok, i see it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok first you want to solve the inequalities? right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah I got -3≤x<2 and x>2 or x<-6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@MikiaseKebede
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
|2x+1| <= 5
-5 <= 2x+1 <= 5
-5-1 <= 2x <= 5-1
-6 <= 2x <= 4
-6/2 <= x <= 4/2
-3 <= x <= 2
So your first answer is correct but you forgot to say "or equal to" for the second inequality sign.

oh whoopsy! but how do you graph those? like which answers are they? a,b,c, or d? @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
-3 <= x <= 2
means you'll have closed circles at -3 and 2. You'll then shade the region between -3 and 2
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
this is basically a visual way of saying "x is between -3 and 2 (including both endpoints)"
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so the first one is B, correct? @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
correct

and help on the 2nd one? @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
|2x+4| > 8
2x+4 > 8 or 2x+4 < -8
2x > 8-4 or 2x < -8-4
2x > 4 or 2x < -12
x > 4/2 or x < -12/2
x > 2 or x < -6
x < -6 or x > 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So that one is C? @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
exactly
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thanks so much! @jim_thompson5910
