PLEASE HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the problem? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Marta is trying to find a function. She knows that f(–2) = 0, f(1) = 9, and f(4) = 0. Which function is Marta looking for? A. f(x)=x^2-2x-8 B.f(x)=-2x^2+x+4 C.-x^2+2x+8 D.f(x)-9x^2-2x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain how you got tht im lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C, because you enter the numbers in for x in f(x).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then, if you do the work you come out with -x^2+2x+8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Katieann16 assume function to be ax^2+bx+c then f(-2)=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just substitute in 1 for all of them - since the answer must be 9, and C is the only equation that gives that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just put x=-2 in this equation:) @Katieann16 i m telling u the general method:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so.. -x^2+2x+8 -2^2+2(-2)+8 =0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes^^ Exactly! That's how all f(x) problems should work out, if not then you have to re check your work! :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Katieann16 u r putting in equation but it will work if u r trying hit and trial but if their re no options or more than 10 then what will u do general method is to assume an equation like|dw:1353528666239:dw| now put x=-2 :)|dw:1353528704696:dw|
