16 < 3x + 1 < 4 Part 1: Solve the inequality above. Part 2: Describe the graph of the solution.

@cwrw238

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@robtobey

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to simply the equation you have up there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no :( @amiliver

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@haleycoulter just first subtract 1 from every side:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup then divide by 3 from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 15<3x<4 ? @Aperogalics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait no 15<3x<3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup:) now divide by 3 every where:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5<x<1 ? @Aperogalics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup:) Now this is ur part one's last stage seprete them and make it to interpret:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and how do you do that? @Aperogalics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5<x<1 it has 2 inequality so first take 5<x or x<1 whatever u want so ur choice. what u want to take?????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5<x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it means x is a no. geater than 5. now what about the second one??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x is less than 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya now tell me is there any no. possible which is less than 1 but greater than 5????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no there isn't so there's no solution?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so done thats ur answer of first part now if there is no solution so can u draw its graph.....no done:)

OpenStudy (wwe123):

16 < 3x + 1 < 4 16-1<3x<4-1 15<3x<3 15/3<x<3/3 1<x<5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15/3<x<3/3 1<x<5 isn't it 5<x<1 @wwe123 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so fo this one ( -4x - 5 > -9 ) after it's been solved you'd get the graph of x > 1; open circle on 1, shading to the right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Aperogalics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry @haleycoulter one of the important point u must remember for inequality that sign changes when u multiply by a negative no. or take reciprocal of it. So sign changes here and it comes x<1 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah! thanks so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw:)
