Which best describes a system of equations that has infinitely many solutions? 1.)consistent, independent 2.)inconsistent, dependent 3.)consistent, dependent 4.)inconsistent

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

inconsistent systems do not have solutions, so choices 2 and 4 are out

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if two equations are independent, then they form 2 distinct lines (that are not the same) if two equations are dependent (one depends on the other), then they form 2 lines which are the same (one line lies on top of the other)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so which one do you think it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, well I vote for consistent, independent????? idk I guess it just makes to me with what I've learned :

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

here's an example of what consistent and independent equations look like when they are graphed |dw:1353706893223:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how many solutions does this system have
